Candymaker Chews Up Gum Manufacturer
LINDA WERTHEIMER, Host:
Our last word in business today is about a sweet deal for consumers. The word is candy colossus. The maker of Juicy Fruit and Lifesavers will soon be gobbled up by the company that makes M&Ms and Snickers. Yesterday, Wrigley shareholders approved sale of their company to the chocolate maker, Mars. Together, the two companies will become the largest candy seller in the world. Mars is paying $23 billion for Wrigley, which was founded in Chicago in 1891. Mars is maintaining Wrigley as a separate standalone subsidiary so the name survives. That's the business news on Morning Edition. From NPR News, I'm Linda Wertheimer.
