Here's how to help design a new memorial for the famous P-22 mountain lion

Two nonprofits are asking artists to submit ideas for a future memorial at Griffith Park to honor the late mountain lion P-22.
About the project: Friends of Griffith Park and the National Wildlife Federation are partnering with the L.A. City Department of Parks and Recreation to lead the project. The memorial should inspire Angelenos and visitors to think about their connection with P-22 and how the mountain lion's legacy paved the way for conservation efforts. His path to Griffith Park took him across several freeways where mountain lions have been struck and killed in the past. To help keep wildlife safe, the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing is currently underway in Agoura Hills.
Why it matters: P-22 was euthanized in 2022 when local park officials noted his health was declining after being captured in a backyard of a Los Feliz home. He was 12, an unusually long life for a puma. Thousands gathered to celebrate his life at a memorial last year.
