You may actually have a legitimate excuse for being late to work today. An accident eastbound on the 101 freeway just past the Hollywood / 170 split involving a sand-filled big rig and several other vehicles ha shutdown nearly all lanes of the 101 freeway near Laurel Canyon Blvd in both directions reports KTLA.Witnesses reported that a big rig hauling two sand-filled trailers crashed into the center divider of the freeway breaking through to oncoming traffic and striking several vehicles on the westbound side before bouncing back to the eastbound lanes and landing atop of an SUV.

Paramedics treated the SUV driver at the scene before transporting by ambulance to a nearby ER in unknown condition. Drivers of several other vehicles were also treated by paramedics. The driver of the big rig was not injured but required the assistance of a fire crew ladder rescue to be removed from the cab of his truck.
