May 19 Election Called to Fill Solis' Congressional Seat

California's 32nd Congressional District seat is now vacant thanks to its previous holder, Hilda Solis, going to Washington to assume the post of U.S. labor secretary. Now "Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has scheduled a primary election for May 19," to fill the seat, reports the Pasadena Star-News. "The winner of each party primary will face off in a July 14 special general election to fill the remainder of Solis' two-year term in the 32nd Congressional District."
Voters participating in the May 19th primary will also be taking part in the special statewide election that puts "six ballot measures related to the state budget" on the line.
Solis' seat became hotly contested before it was even up for grabs, with many local politicians rumored to have interest. The 32nd District includes parts of Los Angeles, East LA and the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Irwindale, Monterey Park, Rosemead, South El Monte, and West Covina.
