A mother and her two kids were stabbed to death early this morning inside their Riverside home by a man believed to be the mother's estranged boyfriend. Later, the suspect was shot in a confrontation with police in Corona.

Police were called to the house around 6:50 am, where they found the mother, her 4-year-old and 1-year-old children. All of them had stab wounds and were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles Times.

It's not clear exactly how the man was related to his victims. Police told the Times that they believe the man was involved with the mother, but he wasn't legally married to her. It's not clear yet if the children were his.

Police in Corona got a call about a person who matched a description of the suspect who fled the scene in Riverside. Police got into a confrontation with the suspect and shot him. He was hospitalized, the Riverside Press-Enterprise reports.
