Man Shot By LAPD At Venice Coffeeshop Dies

The man shot by LAPD officers in front of a Venice coffeeshop on Monday has died.According to a City News Service report, a coroner's official said 41-year old Jason Davis died in a hospital around 8 p.m., Wednesday night.
LAPD officers were called to Groundwork Coffee in Venice on Monday afternoon after receiving a call about "a man causing a disturbance who had a knife." Davis reportedly vomited on the patio of the coffeeshop, and started acting unruly when a manager came out to speak with him, pulling out a knife. When officers responded to the scene, police say Davis refused to drop his knife and "aggressively" approached officers. After a Taser had no effect, police opened fire on Davis.
"Literally when the police arrived to the shooting, [it was] 1 min and 30 secs—under two minutes—before the gun was shot," witness Anthony Batt told LAist.
Witnesses at the scene say Davis appeared to be mentally ill and had been drinking from a bottle that appeared to be a mix of water and cigarette butts.
The shooting remains under investigation.
