Man Arrested In Disturbing Kidnapping, Penis-Slicing Case

A man has been arrested in the gruesome kidnapping of two adults who were taken from a home on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach before being bound, beaten and dumped in Kern County.
It is believed that the 29-year-old man and 53-year-old woman were kidnapped, beaten and, in the man's case, genitally mutilated for ransom. Kyle Shirakawa Handley, 33, of Fountain Valley was arrested on October 6, but two suspects in the case are still at large, police recently told the Los Angeles Times.
Newport Beach Police responded to a call about a kidnapping on October 2 and found blood in the home that was being rented by the male victim. Police believe that three masked men—armed with a rubber hose, rifle, a knife and possibly a club— kidnapped the victims, bound and blindfolded them and loaded them into a van on October 1.
Later a deputy in Kern County spotted the female victim restrained with zip ties off a secluded part of Highway 14. Her male companion had part of his penis sliced off with a kitchen knife that was found later. The victims' relationship to one another wasn't clear.
Handley has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping for ransom, torture, aggravated mayhem and burglary with a sentence enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury. He has pleaded not guilty.
