Topline:

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck just east of Barstow at 1 p.m. Monday, with shaking felt across the Southland and as far away as Las Vegas.

A bit more: The quake's origin was 4.9 miles deep and there were several sub-4.0 magnitude aftershocks. It's unclear which fault is responsible, but the San Andreas is nearby. No damage was immediately reported.

Early warning: A ShakeAlert was issued, giving people in Palmdale a 20-second heads up that shaking was on the way.
