With our free press under threat and federal funding for public media gone, your support matters more than ever. Help keep the LAist newsroom strong, become a monthly member or increase your support today.

As we all know, it's not as hot this summer as it was last summer, but that doesn't mean we still aren't breaking a sweat if we step outside after 11 a.m. Since it's supposed to stay in the 80s and 90s for the foreseeable future, here are a few hotels in L.A. where you can get into the water even if you aren't a hotel guest. (Fair warning: Most require you to purchase a day pass.)

Hotel Xilo

This isn't the fanciest of pools, but non-guests can get in for $10 a day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. If what you want is water in which you may immerse your body in the northeast area of the city, this is a great bet.

Shade Hotel

A boutique hotel, Shade is located a few blocks from the beach. Non-guests can get in to the pool for $20 a day, and it's open from 10 a.m. until sundown. Call first to make sure there isn't an event being held at the time you want to go.

Sportsman's Lodge

The pool at this swanky NoHo hotel was recently renovated and offers day passes for $25 per person. Admission includes a towel, and you can enjoy a drink or snack at the pool bar. The swimming area is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Aloft

Got a long layover? Flight delayed? Grab a day pass for $20, and check out the pool at Aloft in El Segundo. You can purchase a pass at the front desk, and it's good from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.

If Hollywood-slash-Beverly Hills-slash-Santa Monica is more your scene, check out ResortPass or dayaxe. Many of the area's most popular spots -- including The W, the Andaz, the SLS, the Fairmont, the Viceroy and the Beverly Hilton -- offer day passes through these services. A quick look at their prices today showed options starting at $18.75.

Other options for dunking your body in cool, clear liquid on hot sunny days include the many pools owned and operated by the city and... you know, the ocean.

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.

Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
