May 17th Election Results Finalized: Kayser for LAUSD and Svonkin for Community College FTW!

After several days of tabulation, the results of the May 17th City of Los Angeles General Municipal Election have been finalized, and wins declared in the two runoff education contests that brought (a few) people to the polls. The final results in both contests were the same as forecast on Election Night.The Los Angeles Community College Seat 5 race was won by Scott Svonkin, who defeated Lydia A. Gutierrez.
The Los Angeles Unified School District Board District 5 race was won by Bennett Kayser, who defeated Luis Sanchez.
Of Kayser's win, Los Angeles County Democratic Party Chair and California Democratic Party Vice Chair Eric C. Bauman said:
"On behalf of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, I congratulate Bennett Kayser on his election to the Los Angeles School Board. He is a longtime teacher and parent in the LAUSD who understands the needs and the challenges of our classrooms firsthand. We look forward to working with him to ensure our children receive the high quality education they deserve."
According to the City Clerk, the votes were cast as follows:
LAUSD District 5
BENNETT KAYSER 10,741votes (51.44%)
LUIS SANCHEZ 10,139 votes (48.56%)
Community College Seat 5
LYDIA A. GUTIERREZ 61,597 votes (46.43%)
SCOTT SVONKIN 71,071 votes (53.57%)
