Last Night's Big Election Winner: Downtown's Grand Park
Even before the returns finished coming in, there was one clear winner in Los Angeles: our own Grand Park.
Angelenos gathered together on the beautiful autumn night to watch the returns, listen to the DJs, enjoy some drinks and cheer (this was a largely Dem crowd, after all) as the electoral map turned blue. Grand Park opened earlier this summer and its hosted plenty of well-received events such as Dia De Los Muertos, but last night was the park's national debut on CNN.
Downtown blogger Brigham Yen wrote about how, well, grand the communal experience was:
Last night, it was not only electrifying to experience the election results together with hundreds of other Angelenos who were just as excited, but I was fully aware of how wonderful it was to actually be standing in a park, in Los Angeles, on public space, in Los Angeles underneath the captivating glow of City Hall.
L.A. Streetsblog called it a "victory for open space."We rounded up a few pictures from excited Instagrammers at the event.
