LAFD on High Alert for Holiday Weekend of Scorching Heat and Rampant Fireworks

from last year's July 4th fireworks at the Rose Bowl (Photo by magnetic lobster via LAist Featured Photos Flickr Pool).
We need to hear from you.
Today during our spring member drive, put a dollar value on the trustworthy reporting you rely on all year long. The local news you read here every day is crafted for you, but right now, we need your help to keep it going. In these uncertain times, your support is even more important. We can't hold those in power accountable and uplift voices from the community without your partnership. Thank you.

With temperatures expected to reach the 90s and 100s across the region, Los Angeles firefighters are prepared for a high risk of wildfires over the celebratory Fourth of July weekend.

Extra firefighters will be on the job this weekend in Santa Clarita and San Dimas and other areas where dry brush is at high risk.

Fireworks are illegal in L.A., the fire department reminds us but we all know that's not going to stop July 4th revelers from firing off their own.

Instead, LAFD and LAPD recommend attending a public fireworks show near you. Perhaps one listed here:
