LA Blogger of the Month: Asia Carrera

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

Our favorite Asian porn star has had a cruel summer but she keeps blogging. In June, her husband Don got in an accident while driving home from Las Vegas and died when his Jeep rolled over. She wrote about going through Father's Day the next week without him, and then a month later she delivered their second baby and named the little angel after him, Don III.

Asia has kept her personal website, asiacarrera.com, rolling for ten years straight, documenting both the highs and lows of her life. It was clear how much she loved Don and what a tragedy his death was. It's also clear how much she loves her children, and how dedicated she is to them, and to her site.

As honest as you can get, Asia writes about getting Zoloft, writes about being a mom, writes about business, and pretty much gets naked for her readers physically as well as emotionally. We love her and pray for her and we're pulling for her.

Being a newly-single mother of two little kids cannot be easy, and sometimes being famous is a double-edged sword when your fame comes from a controversial industry, so if you were thinking about picking up some of Asia's vids, perhaps you should get them straight from her and pick up an autograph while you're there.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
