Comedian Ricky Gervais hosts the 73rd annual Golden Globes award ceremony in Beverly Hills on Sunday. NBC's red carpet coverage starts at 4 p.m. PST, followed by the ceremony from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Actors nominated for a Golden Globe award this year include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Matt Damon, Amy Schumer, Will Smith and Melissa McCarthy.

Denzel Washington won the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is given to people who make a significant impact on the world of entertainment.

The Associated Press reports that Tom Hanks, Helen Mirren, Michael Keaton, Amy Adams, Kurt Russell, Lady Gaga, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez, Eddie Redmayne, Kate Hudson, Channing Tatum, Kate Bosworth and Mel Gibson are among the award presenters.

In the best motion picture drama category, "Mad Max: Fury Road," "The Revenant," "Spotlight," "Carol" and "Room" are the nominees.

The AP points out that although "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" became the highest-grossing movie of all time in North America on Wednesday, it was not nominated for an award.
