US attorney general visits LA
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder is visiting Southern California.
At a news conference in downtown Los Angeles, he announced nearly $9 million in police agency grants to fight Mexican drug cartels that operate in this country.
Eric Holder: "Our state and local partners in law enforcement play a critical role, a critical role in our efforts to confront the cartels. They are a force multiplier that vastly extends the potential reach of federal law enforcement - multiplying our eyes as well as our ears."
The money will go to San Diego, Chula Vista, and San Mateo. It signals growing concern about the drug cartels’ influence north of the U.S. border. Attorney General Holder also visited a South L.A. Boys and Girls Club on Wednesday. On Thursday he’ll go to a Harbor area women’s shelter to speak about federal efforts against domestic violence.
