Man killed in small plane crash in Van Nuys intersection
The Los Angeles Fire Department is investigating a small plane that has gone down at the intersection of Vanowen Street and Hayvenhurst Avenue in Van Nuys, killing one man, LAFD spokesman Peter Sanders confirmed to KPCC.
When assessing the scene, LAFD discovered a man in his 40s still in the aircraft and pronounced him dead at the scene, said Sanders.
The man appeared to be the pilot, said Sanders, and there do not appear to be more people in the plane.
The crash scene is next to the Van Nuys Airport and it appears the plane had just departed the airport.

“It is a very busy intersection and it is obviously closed right now and for the foreseeable future,” said Sanders. “Certainly it will affect the Friday commute so we ask motorists to find an alternate route home.”
