T-shirt memorializes firefighters killed during Station Fire
Firefighters collect T-shirts from the major wildfires they've battled. At the Station Fire, they're also buying T-shirts that honor the two firefighters who died last week. KPCC's Brian Watt has more.
Brian Watt: A big number 16 figures prominently in the T-shirt's design. That's for the fire camp in the Angeles National Forest where two firefighters worked, and died, as they hustled to evacuate the camp's inmate crews. L.A. County Firefighter Karen Zackowicz describes the rest of the shirt:
Karen Zakowicz: It's Superintendent Ted Hall, Foreman Arnie Quinones. They got the camp patch. "Never Forget." Station Fire 8-30-2009.
Watt: Zakowicz worked at Camp 16, and knew Arnie Quinones. She described him as a gung-ho guy who always smiled.
Zakowicz: His mantra was "first in, last out." And that's what happened. So it's uh... it's just hard.
Watt: The money raised by T-shirt sales will go to help the families of Arnie Quinones and Ted Hall. A public memorial for the two firefighters is scheduled Saturday morning at Dodger Stadium.
