Power outages force shops in Huntington Beach to close
The storm caused power outages that have forced many businesses to close for the day.
On the corner of Warner Avenue and the Pacific Coast Highway in north Huntington Beach, most of the shops are shuttered. But the Secret Spot, a restaurant serving vegan and health food, is still open.
Megan Pike, the assistant manager, says that without power, they're making do by leaving the refrigerators and freezers closed, keeping all of their ingredients on ice, and monitoring temperatures.
"We have a pretty loyal following, so we hate to miss customers and disappoint people," she says. "We just had customers this morning that drove all the way from Arizona, and it would have been heartbreaking to tell them, 'Oh, I'm sorry, we're closed.' So we just kind of muscle through and hope the power comes back on, and just stay here for our loyal customers until we can't anymore."
