Los Angeles Police officers were involved in a shooting on the 600 block of west 43rd Place in South Los Angeles around 2:30 pm this afternoon.

Officers from a specialty unit were following up on an investigation when they saw the suspect of that investigation and an exchange of gunfire began, Officer Liliana Preciado told KPCC.

No officers were injured, she said. The suspect was hit once and was transferred to a hospital.

"At this point we don't know the condition of the suspect and we're not sure yet as to the nature of the call," she said. The suspect has not yet been identified.

KTLA reports that the suspect opened fire on the LAPD officers, who were sitting in their car.
