Black Friday: Officer injured after fight at Rialto Walmart
Police say an officer broke his right hand while breaking up a fight Thanksgiving night between two men outside a Walmart in Rialto.
The incident happened just after 7 p.m. after a man walked out of the store during its pre-Black Friday sale and was assaulted by another man who jumped out of a nearby vehicle.
The suspect, Raymond Rice, was arrested along with a relative who allegedly assaulted the responding officers. Both are being charged with felony assault on a police officer and assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Rialto Police Department.
A Walmart spokeswoman called it a minor altercation and says the rest of their stores around the country have remained incident-free. She says all stores have security staff in place temporarily through Black Friday to ensure customers have a safe and pleasant shopping experience.
Still, NBC reports there have been several violent flare-ups related to Black Friday around the country, including a driver who was shot by police after dragging an officer in his car at a Chicago Kohl's, a man who was slashed with a knife after fighting over a parking spot at a West Virginia Walmart, and another man who was shot in the leg after trying to stop a thief from taking his just-purchased television in Las Vegas.
