President Obama is headlining a fundraiser for congressional Democrats in Los Angeles Monday.

“West Wing” producer John Wells is hosting the fundraiser at his Hancock Park home. Democrats paid $2,500 a person for a cocktail reception with the president, $30,000 per couple for dinner and a photo with Mr. Obama.

Hollywood’s always well represented at Democratic Party galas. This one includes director Steven Spielberg, Dreamworks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg and Barbra Streisand.

The money goes to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee – the political arm of House Democrats.

The party won 55 House seats in the last two elections. This year, it’s struggling to limit losses that could add up to Republican control of Congress.

And national Democrats are turning to Southern California, a traditional source of campaign cash, for help.
