National parks and forests offer free admission on Martin Luther King Jr. Day
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, national parks and forests will offer free admission on Monday.
Wilderness areas such as Yosemite and Sequoia & Kings Canyon, which usually charge $25 and $30 for admission, respectively, are part of the free day and are expecting some new snowfall, the LA Times reported.

Of the 409 national parks, 127 of them normally charge an entrance fee while the rest are normally free to visit, according to the NPS website.
The Martin Luther King Jr., national parks free day applies to entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees. Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included in the park and forest free day unless stated otherwise.
Sites listed on the National Recreation Reservation Service (NRRS) will not be included in the fee waiver, according to the Forest Service’s website.
The National Park service warns that tire chains or cables may be required in parks with wintry road conditions like snow and ice. You can find more information on park road conditions and winter driving tips on the National Park Service’s website.
