More deportations likely for Cambodians in near future
Back in January, a federal judge in Santa Ana gave close to 100 Cambodian immigrants a temporary reprieve from deportation, along with a chance to ask that their cases be reopened.
While some did file to reopen their cases, advocates say others could not, citing reasons like not qualifying, not having the resources for legal help, or simply being tired of fighting after being held in detention.
According to immigrant advocates, more Cambodia deportees are expected to be returned to their home country in the coming weeks. Many Cambodians have already been deported after the Trump administration placed visa sanctions on Cambodia last year for not taking back deportees.
