Mid-Wilshire police shooting: Suspect in struggle for officer’s Taser dies
A man who was suspected of breaking storefront windows and who was shot by police in the Mid-Wilshire area Thursday morning has died.
The suspect, a 38-year-old Caucasian male, has been identified, but his name is not being released pending notification of next of kin, according to the Los Angeles coroner's office.
Police had been responding to a call of vandalism and arrived to see a man matching the suspect description breaking storefront windows with a skateboard, police told KPCC on Thursday.
After attempting to get the suspect to stop, a struggle ensued, the suspect got hold of a Taser and turned it on one of the officers, and a police shooting occurred, according to LAPD Commander Andy Smith.
The man's time of death was reported as 5:50 p.m. Thursday.
More to come.
