Metro Blue Line delays in Compton after train-car collision
Metro Blue Line riders were facing delays of up to 20 minutes Monday morning in Compton after a train collided with a car and derailed.
The accident happened between Willowbrook-Rosa Parks and Compton Station at about 7:30 a.m., according to Metro.
Bus shuttles are in effect between those two stations. Metro advised riders to use an alternate route and also shared this list of options.
According to Metro, the train was damaged and had to be put back on the tracks. Also damaged were a track switch box and supports for the overhead wires that power the trains.
Metro said it appeared the driver of the vehicle went around the crossing gates into the path of the train and that the gates were working.
The driver's condition is still unknown, according to NBC4.
The accident occurred at Willowbrook Avenue and East 119th Street, NBC4 reports.
Metro said it hopes to complete repairs and restore service in time for the afternoon commute.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, Metro said.
