Mayoral election settled in Inglewood
Inglewood’s confirmed the final vote count in its special mayoral election. The city had until January 25 to ratify the count.
The winner is former Santa Monica police chief James Butts. He emerged from the mail-in election with just shy of 56 percent of the vote. His opponent, incumbent Inglewood mayor and former city councilman Daniel Tabor, garnered 44 percent.
Tabor held the job for less than a year. He became mayor after longtime mayor Roosevelt Dorn pleaded guilty to a conflict-of-interest charge and resigned a year ago.
That plea averted a trial over a half-million dollar loan Dorn had accepted through Inglewood’s housing program.
The new mayor of the city adjacent to L.A. International Airport most recently headed security at LAX.
He also worked for 20 years in the Inglewood Police Department. He left that job when Santa Monica hired him as its police chief – a job he held for 15 years.
