Man jailed on charges of installing Hollywood supergraphic
A Pacific Palisades businessman arrested for allegedly putting up an illegal supergraphic on a Hollywood building was jailed Friday in lieu of $1 million bail, but it was unclear if remained behind bars early today.
Kayvan Setareh, 49, was arrested Friday night, booked on suspicion of three misdemeanors related to the signage and jailed on $1 million bail -- an amount normally reserved for killers.
The sheriff's Web site for tracking inmates was not working early today.
Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich pursued the charges against Setareh, who is alleged to have arranged for an oversize movie ad to be hung from a building at Hollywood Boulevard and Highland Avenue.
"The days of lax and inconsistent enforcement of billboard and outdoor advertising laws in this city are over,'' Trutanich said in a prepared statement.
The city has been battling purveyors of supergraphics and digital billboards, and officials have been stymied by adverse court rulings that have stopped them from removing the signs.
Trutanich has also filed a lawsuit related to about a dozen other supergraphics.
