Majority of Compton's Dominguez High School teachers call in sick
The majority of teachers at Manuel Dominguez High School in Compton called in sick Tuesday, leaving 31 of 86 regular teachers behind, the Los Angeles Times reports. Those teachers, along with substitutes, had to take care of more than 2,500 students, L.A. Weekly reports.
Compton Unified School District Superintendent Darin Brawley said in a statement that 55 teachers "called in sick today," L.A. Weekly reports.

Unsupervised students had to be picked up early, according to the Weekly.
According to Brawley, the apparent sick-out was due to contract negotiations between the school district and the teachers union, the Weekly reports. Brawley said that the "concerted work stoppage" violated their collective bargaining agreement and that an investigation would be launched. Brawley said that teachers could be terminated, KABC reports.
