Long Beach power outage darkens morning for hundreds
Labor Day weekend started off dark for more than 800 Long Beach residents early Saturday morning after a broken cross arm on one of the city's power poles led to a power outage that could last into the early evening for some, according to Southern California Edison.
The outage was first reported at 5:41 a.m. Saturday morning, according to Southern California Edison spokeswoman Caroline Aoyagi. The location of the broken cross arm was Hackett Avenue, just north of Wardlow Road, she said. There was no information on what caused the cross arm to fail.
Exactly 824 residents were left without power at the outset, but all but 31 of those customers have had service restored, Aoyagi said. The estimated restoration time for the 31 customers is 5 p.m.
This is the latest in a series of power outages for the city during the summer, some of which have left thousands in the dark.
