Lights shine bright on Thoroughbred Street in Alta Loma
The Southland offers plenty of ways to celebrate the holidays. Woodland Hills has Candy Cane Lane, Griffith Park offers its classic light display and in the Alta Loma neighborhood of Rancho Cucamonga there's Thoroughbred Street.
Neighbors fill their yards with toy trains, Santa, reindeer, and lots of lights. Neighbors have been putting on extravagant light shows on Thoroughbred Street for at least a couple decades and it attracts a large crowd each holiday season.
Neighbors say there's no peer pressure and they don't compete to put up the best displays.
But the lights use a lot of power, leaving residents with electricity bills the size of mortgage payments. One resident estimates he pays up to $1,800 on his electricity in December.
The neighborhood is north of the 210 Freeway, off Sapphire Street in Alta Loma. The lights on Thoroughbred Street will stay up until Christmas.
