“It’s going to have a bigger effect as the day goes on. Right now, there’s only been about a hundred or so flights at LAX that have been impacted, either being held at their origins away from LAX, so they don’t arrive at LAX or flights that are at LAX with a plane but not departing. By the end of the day, it will probably affect hundreds of flights nationwide,” said Mark Duell of FlightAware.com, which tracks private and commercial flights.
According to Duell, even if the airport manages to resume normal operations, passengers will likely feel the effects of delayed and cancelled flights through the weekend.
"So tomorrow morning, they’ll be back to a normal schedule. But for a lot of passengers who are either stuck in another city or unable to start their journeys, the impact can last for a few days.” Duell said.

Victor Gill, director of public affairs and communications at Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, said that they were not experiencing any delays. But he said as a precaution, every vehicle entering the airport's parking structure was being searched.
