LAPD names Ernest L. Allen Sr. as officer killed in cement truck collision
A fatal crash involving a cement truck occurred on Loma Vista Drive, where two previous crashes occurred, on Friday.

The Los Angeles Police Department announced Saturday that the name of the officer killed in a Friday traffic collision on the same street another officer died in a collision two months ago was 27-year veteran Ernest L. Allen Sr. He was an LAPD Southwest detective.
Allen was off-duty and driving his own vehicle when he was hit by a cement truck while driving in Beverly Hills on Loma Linda Drive, according to the Department.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene by L.A. Fire Department personnel, according to the LAPD. The cement truck's driver was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries.
Veteran LAPD officer Nicholas Lee was killed nearly two months ago on the same street after his patrol car collided with an out-of control dump truck.

Chief Charlie Beck said Friday that the detective had "off-duty employment" in the area and regularly traveled the curved, two-lane road, according to the Associated Press.
Beck said it appears that the cement truck lost control and crossed into the oncoming lane, according to the AP.
Allen is survived by his fiancee, his mother, two children, two grandchildren and his sister, according to the Department. He'd previously been assigned to the Rampart, Wilshire and 77th Street areas.
Beverly Hills police and the California Highway Patrol are investigating the collision.
