Los Angeles City College is getting a $2 million gift from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the largest donation made by the organization that sponsors the Golden Globe Awards.

The donation pledge was announced Wednesday, with the amount to go toward the community college's cinema and television department. Some of the funds will help the school raise its program to HD industry standards and improve post-production, studio and theater facilities.

"This gift will provide the resources that our students need in order to successfully compete in the world of film and television," said Renee Martinez, Los Angeles City College’s president, in a written statement.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave $1.9 million in a grants to film schools and nonprofits at its annual banquet last year, the group said. The association also made a $350,000 donation to The Film Foundation, a nonprofit that focuses on restoring films.

Los Angeles City College is located in east Hollywood and has a student body of more than 17,000 students.
