Irwindale officers under investigation for alleged sexual improprieties
Officials say a former sergeant and two current officers from the tiny Southern California city of Irwindale are under criminal investigation.
Irwindale Police Chief Dennis Smith confirmed the investigations Thursday for the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, but he declined to provide details. Smith's department has just 17 officers to police the city of 1,500.
Smith says two are being investigated for alleged sexual improprieties, including an officer who is accused of a sexual assault during a traffic stop. Smith says he's requested a sheriff's investigation.
Police in nearby Azusa say the third Irwindale officer is under investigation after a family member reported he took a large amount of cash from another family member. The officer hasn't been arrested or charged with a crime.
