Everything you need to know to get to and park at LA Rams games

If you're planning to watch the Los Angeles Rams take the field, here are two things you probably want to avoid: Getting stuck in traffic and paying $100 for a parking spot. Here's what you need to know to get into your seat by kickoff.

Driving there

The Rams play their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, located in Exposition Park near USC at:

Getting to the Coliseum might be a challenge as many streets near the venue are typically closed on game days. The same traffic plans that are used for USC football games will likely be in effect for Rams games.

Common street closures usually include:

• Exposition Blvd. from Vermont Ave. to Figueroa St. 
• Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. from Vermont Ave. to Figueroa St.
• Figueroa St. from Exposition Blvd. to MLK Jr. Blvd. 
• Flower St. from Jefferson Blvd. to Exposition Blvd. and 37th St. to Figueroa St.

Because of these street closures, you should plan ahead so you'll know which freeway exit to take. Whether you're taking the 110 or the 10, USC's Gameday Traffic Flow map (seen above) shows all the access points.

Parking

In order to park in any USC Campus or Exposition Park lot, you'll need a permit — and all parking permits for the season are sold out. There 's no on-site public parking for Rams games. These lots generally open five hours before kickoff and close 90 minutes after the game ends. There is no re-entry and or overnight parking in these lots. 

Don't have a permit? You can try your luck at these parking lots, where spots are available on a first-come first-served basis for $50. Bring cash.

• Downey Street Structure (formerly PSA) - Gate 6 located at Vermont Ave. at W. 36th Pl. or Gate 1 at Exposition Blvd. and Watt Way.
• Jefferson Blvd. Structure (formerly PSB) - Gate 8 located at Jefferson Blvd. (East of Vermont Ave.)
• Royal Street Structure (formerly PSD) - Gate 4 located at Jefferson Blvd. and Royal St.
• Grand Ave. Structure (formerly UPX) - Located on 35th St. between Hope St. and Grand Ave.
• Shrine Parking Garage – May be accessed from 645 W. Jefferson Blvd. via Figueroa Blvd (Westbound only) or 680 W. 32nd St. (Eastbound only)

Parking may also be available in other lots near L.A. Live and the L.A. Convention Center. Be prepared to shell out. 

You can also try to score street parking and walk — just make sure to read the signs for restrictions.

Getting there by Metro

The best way to avoid traffic and parking hassles is to leave your car at home or somewhere far from the Coliseum and use public transit. You can ride the Metro to several different stations near the Coliseum and use Metro's trip planner to help plan your route.

The Expo Line is probably your best bet with stops at Expo/Vermont, Expo Park/USC and Jefferson/USC. All are within walking distance of the venue.

The Metro Silver Line also has a nearby stop at 37th Street  on the east side of Exposition Park.

You can also try a Metro Rapid bus line like the 754, which stops at Exposition and 37th Drive on the west side of Exposition Park. Several standard Metro buses — 204, 102, 200, 81, 40 and 32 —also make several stops in the area. Check out this map for a view of your options.

Pro Tip: Load your TAP card with round-trip fare before the game to avoid long lines at TAP machines later.

Metro

Getting there by Metrolink

Depending where you're at, you can jump on a Metrolink train and transfer to one of Metro Rail Lines for the last leg of your journey. Here's how:

• Check the Metrolink schedule online
• Get to the train station at least 15 minutes early
• Buy a paper ticket for $10 — electronic tickets don't let you transfer to Metro, which you'll need to use to board a Metro train
• Hop aboard!

Metrolink adds extra trains for Rams home games, timed to get riders there by kickoff, on these lines:

• Antelope Valley
• San Bernardino
• Orange County
• 91/Perris Valley

"With our weekend ticket pass, you can pay $10 for a round trip and get to the Rams game, not have to worry about traffic or parking," Metrolink spokesperson Sherita Coffelt told KPCC. And you don't have to worry about picking a designated driver if you've been drinking.

Tailgating

Tailgating isn't allowed on the USC campus or in USC parking structures but certain Exposition Park parking lots allow tailgating in designated areas. They include:

• Lot 2
• Lot 4
• Lot 5
• Lot 6
• South Lawn and State Dr.

Tailgating is NOT allowed in: Lot 3, the Visitor Parking Structure, South Park Drive, Martin Luther King Boulevard or Expo Center Drive.

You can tailgate in individual parking spaces, in front or behind each vehicle. You can't block pedestrian or vehicle access and you can't use multiple spaces without. Feel free to throw up a small canopy, no larger than 8' x 8', in front of or behind your vehicle. Check here for more details on what you can and can't do while tailgating.

At the Coliseum

Gates open two hours before kickoff. Give yourself ample time to get through security. 

The Coliseum implemented a clear bag policy, which means you can bring a clear or vinyl tote no larger than 12" x 6" x 12," a one-gallon resealable bag or a small clutch no larger than an adult hand. There are exceptions for medical items.
