High surf: LA coast, Catalina Island, central and south coasts
Coastal areas around L.A., including Catalina Island, and the south and central coasts and Ventura County are under high surf advisory Tuesday.
The warning will be in effect until about 4 p.m. Tuesday. After that, waves are expected to calm, Stuart Ceto, National Weather Service specialist, told KPCC.
"People need to be especially careful," Ceto said. "There's a lot more danger out there."
High tides in the past have brought rip tides, beach erosion, and produced flooding in some areas.
The L.A. coast and nearby islands will be experiencing 6-10 ft. surfs with 13 ft. sets — including Ventura Harbor, Port Hueneme, Palos Verdes to Marina del Rey. Catalina Island's the west side is also susceptible to high waves.
High surf conditions usually roll in after big storms with winds, like the one that passed over the weekend, Ceto said.
L.A. will be seeing a rise in temperature, too. Downtown L.A. and the valleys will see highs in the upper 80s Thursday through Saturday.
There's also a wind advisory out for the mountains around L.A.
