Happy about McCourt's departure, fans rally at Dodger Stadium
A couple dozen fans gathered at the entrance to Dodger Stadium Wednesday night to celebrate Frank McCourt's announcement that he'll be selling the team.
Some fans had boycotted the team during the season because of their dislike of McCourt.
"I’m a true Dodgers fan. I want more than just playoffs," said Stanley Alvarez of West Covina. Like many fans, Alvarez is glad McCourt is out as owner of the Dodgers.
"I want a good family atmosphere at Dodger Stadium, which was lost with McCourt as owner. And hopefully, we can get an owner who really cares about us. I mean, I really care about the team. I want that reciprocated."
Alvarez says he actually ripped up his season ticket renewal form about a month ago because he was fed up with the McCourt drama. But now, he says, he'll be fishing that renewal out of the trash.
Tonia Baca wasn’t one of those who boycotted the team during McCourt's tenure, but she is a season ticket holder who’s glad that he'll be gone soon.
"It’s really disheartening when you go to the games and you don’t see anybody there and you’re like the only one. I mean, there’ve been games where we’ve been the only people in our section and we’re like, ‘uhhh.’ So that’s really disheartening," said Baca. "So I know it’s hard for the players when they don’t see – when they see the seats empty. You know, it’s very hard. So I’m hoping everybody will come back and we’ll start getting a good team going again."
Most fans outside the stadium Wednesday night said they don’t care who buys the team… as long as it’s someone who actually cares about baseball.
