Gibraltar Fire: All evacuations lifted near Montecito brush fire
All evacuations have been lifted near the area of a brush fire that broke out Thursday morning in the hills above Santa Barbara and Montecito.
Firefighters attacked the Gibraltar Fire in Santa Barbara County aggressively, using multiple air tankers and helicopters to drop retardant. The fire had started before dawn and grew to about 50 acres by mid-morning.
The fire is now 50 percent contained, according to the Montecito Fire Protection District. Crews worked throughout the night mopping up hot spots.
East Camino Cielo at Painted Cave Road to Gibraltar Road and West Mountain Drive at Gibraltar Road remain closed as crews continue to work toward full containment.
Seven helicopters and four air tankers were still on hand to assist as needed.
