Former Lake Elsinore councilman George Alongi found slain
A former councilman for the Southern California city of Lake Elsinore has been found slain in his home.
Riverside County sheriff's investigators said Sunday that 77-year-old George Alongi's body had traumatic injuries when it was found Friday.
No further details were released.
Alongi had a combative reputation while on the City Council from 1992 to 1999, when a judge ordered him removed from office because of 14 conflicts of interest.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports Alongi didn't adequately disclose that he owned properties in the city's redevelopment area, while continuing to vote on redevelopment matters.
In 1997, the California Fair Political Practices Commission fined Alongi $6,500 on several issues, including yelling at a building inspector who refused to approve a gas line on a property he was renovating.
