Fire at Pasadena apartment complex leaves at least 5 without a home
At least five people were without a home after a fire destroyed several apartment units in Pasadena on Monday.
The apartments are across the street from Huntington Memorial hospital. The fire began in a front house and then spread to the apartment units behind.
"Fortunately, due to a day off many of the residents were home but were able to evacuate safely," said Lisa Derderian, a spokeswoman for the Pasadena Fire Department.
Three of the units were destroyed, including one belonging to resident Donald Johnson.
"As far as I know, the place is completely gone — an empty shell. I have nothing but the clothes on my back," Johnson said.
Johnson said firefighters found his dog unconscious but they were able to revive it. Another animal was lost in the fire, according to Derderian.
Derderian said that investigators are still seeking to determine the cause of the fire.
