'The Expendables 2' outmuscles 'Bourne,' draws $28.8m
The action hero ensemble of Schwarzenegger, Willis, Van Damme and others in “The Expendables 2” drew $28.8 million and muscled out “The Bourne Legacy” to claim top spot.
The sequel follows a group of mercenaries thirsting for revenge as they infiltrate enemy territory after one of their men is killed on a job:
“The Dark Knight Rises” slipped to number six. The latest Batman movie pulled in enough this weekend to pass ‘Hunger Games’ and become the second-biggest moneymaker of the year.
Animated comedy “Para-Norman” opened this weekend at number three, and the Will Ferrell political send up, “The Campaign," nabbed fourth.
“Sparkle” opened at number five. The movie stars American Idol winner Jordin Sparks and features Whitney Houston as the stern and loving mother of three singers. Houston died in February and this was her first movie in more than 15 years.
