El Niño: Tracking at-risk areas in Southern California
This winter's El Niño is upon us.
The phenomenon warms waters in the equatorial Pacific and changes weather patterns, sending more storms to California, particularly Southern California. Those storms can drop sustained rainfall that can flood low-lying areas and triggered mudslides, especially in areas recently burned by wildfire.
The map below shows areas in Southern California vulnerable to El Niño damage. We'll keep it updated as the season progresses.
