A city of Orange police officer is recovering from serious injuries to his lower body after being hit by a suspected DUI driver early Saturday morning, according to authorities.

Officials with California Highway Patrol says 27-year-old Ashley Bertolino was driving on Cambridge Street in Orange at roughly 3 a.m. on Saturday when she veered into the police officer as he was retrieving something from his parked patrol car.

Bertolino has been arrested, and the 32-year-old unidentified police officer was taken to a local hospital to be treated for major trauma to his legs and pelvis, according to CHP.
