Dodgers, South LA students honor baseball legend Jackie Robinson

About 10 legendary baseball players, including former and current members of the Dodgers, visited Crenshaw High School in South Los Angeles Friday. They honored Jackie Robison, the man who broke baseball’s color barrier 64 years ago.
Don Newcombe and Robinson played for the Dodgers when the team was still in Brooklyn.
“Jackie gave me a chance to become somebody," Newcombe said. "Remember, a poor kid out of the ghetto in Elizabeth, N.J., and here I am today speaking all these years later to an assembly of young talent, young people at Crenshaw High School. And it all came back because of the Dodgers.”
The Dodgers donated game tickets to the student assembly. Major League Baseball has dedicated April 15 as Jackie Robinson Day.
