A deputy-involved shooting in Lomita today during a traffic stop left a deputy wounded, but she was expected to survive, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the 1700 block of 257th Street, said Deputy Aura Sierra of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

The driver opened fire on the deputy, wounding her in an elbow, Lt. Dave Dolson told KTLA, which reported that the deputy was treated at a hospital and released.

It was unclear if the suspect, who escaped, was injured, Sierra said.

The suspect, described only as a Hispanic man with short hair, fled in a black 2005 Chevy Silverado pickup truck, license number 8W15896, and the vehicle may have a shattered window, said sheriff's Sgt. Diane Hecht.
