Bankruptcy court approves Claim Jumper sale to Landry’s Restaurants
The Irvine-based Claim Jumper restaurant chain, which declared bankruptcy earlier this year, will be sold to another restaurant company. The bankruptcy court has approved the sale.
Claim Jumper opened its first restaurant in Los Alamitos in 1977, but lately it has struggled in the bad economy.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. As part of the bankruptcy deal, the restaurant chain known for its king-size portions will be sold to Houston-based Landry’s Restaurants.
Landry’s is best known as a seafood restaurant chain that also owns the Chart House and Rainforest Café. Landry’s also owns the Golden Nugget casinos in Las Vegas and Laughlin.
Bloomberg.com says Landry’s will pay a little more than $48-million for Claim Jumper and will take on about $23-million of the company’s debts.
There are 45 Claim Jumper restaurants along the West Coast and in the Midwest.
