Castaic Lake fire now 800 acres, 60 percent contained

Firefighters continue to make progress on a brush fire that broke out at Castaic Lake over the weekend.

The Lake Fire has consumed 800 acres and is now 60 percent contained. On Monday, crews will continue to focus on the east side of the fire, where rugged terrain has made things difficult.

The heat wave that's descended on Southern California over the past few days has also posed a danger. Angeles National Forest spokesman Nathan Judy told KPCC one firefighter had to be taken to the hospital on Sunday.

"He received some water intravenously, he was treated there, he's feeling much better, and he's back to the fireline today," Judy said. 

One other firefighter suffered a laceration early on in the fire, but was also treated and released from the hospital. No homes are threatened, and two outbuildings have been destroyed.

The upper east launch ramp of the lake is closed, though the western launch ramp remains open. A cause of the fire remains under investigation.
