Canyon Fire 2 victims are now eligible for federal aid

As crews made progress fighting the Canyon Fire 2 near Anaheim, California Governor Jerry Brown announced on Sunday that Orange County residents are now eligible for direct federal aid.
It's the same kind of assistance that Brown earlier this week said would be available to residents of Napa, Sonoma, Butte, Lake, Mendocino and Yuba counties.
Survivors who live in these areas can apply online for federal Individual Disaster Assistance at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone at 800-621-3362 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. seven days a week.
In addition to the individual assistance for families, California has also secured public assistance to help Butte, Lake, Mendocino, Napa, Nevada, Orange, Solano, Sonoma and Yuba counties remove debris and take other emergency protective measures.
The Canyon Fire 2 in Orange County has burned 9,217 acres and destroyed or damaged more than 50 structures, most of them homes.
As of Sunday morning, the fire, which has been burning in the Anaheim Hills since Monday, Oct. 9, was 75 percent contained.
Officials expect to achieve complete containment on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Minimal fire behavior was observed overnight as crews continue to build and improve containment lines. They're expecting warmer and drier conditions through the rest of the weekend.
All evacuation orders have been lifted but officials are reminding people to stay vigilant and monitor changes in weather and fire conditions. They're also urging people to drive slowly in the fire area as emergency crews are still working.
