California could have fewer days of horse racing next year
The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) will continue discussing the schedule for race days in 2020 at their meeting, Thursday.
Since December 2018 there have been 31 horse deaths at Santa Anita Park, and more animals have died at other California tracks.
Since then, policy changes have been made to improve horse safety. Now the CHRB is looking at fewer race days for 2020 than previous years, and new guidelines to encourage tracks to cancel races if there's bad weather or poor track conditions.
