Brush fire threatens homes in La Verne
A brush fire threatening homes in La Verne quickly burned through 20 acres Sunday afternoon, prompting officials to recommend voluntary evacuations.
The Rodeo Fire broke out at Briny Point Road and Williams Avenue, according to supervising dispatcher Cheryl Sims with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, which was assisting with firefighting efforts. The fire was earlier reported to have started a little farther west, near the 4700 block of Rodeo Lane.
The voluntary evacuation orders applied to residents in the Live Oak Canyon area, Sims told KPCC. No injuries had been reported as of about 5 p.m.
The fire was burning through medium to heavy brush, according to L.A. County Fire Capt. Ron Singleton.
Cal Fire was providing air support for La Verne and L.A. County firefighters.
La Verne police have closed Baseline Road between Fruit Street and Japonica.
